Transport Assistance Scheme

This scheme is available for high-needs patients that are not able to attend their general practice due to transport difficulties. This service is offered at the discretion of General Practice staff, who will book the taxi for you if they think it necessary.

This service is not available for patients having ACC-related or cosmetic-related consultations.

Why is it needed?
Many patients do not access their General Practice due to transport restrictions. There are many health programmes that patients are not utilising as they cannot get to see their doctor or nurse.

This scheme will improve access to primary health care services, resulting in benefits such as:

  • early detection and treatment of conditions;

  • improved management of chronic health conditions through increased uptake of programmes such as the Annual Diabetic Review and CarePlus; and

  • increased screening and health checks.
