| Well Dunedin Launch |
The Dunedin Primary Health Organisation has repositioned itself under the name of Well Dunedin. The move has been taken to raise the Dunedin PHO’s profile in the community and to better reflect what its prime focus is, namely to work collectively to make a positive difference to the health of its community. Well Dunedin’s Board Chairman Philip Broughton, puts it simply “ it all adds up to better health”.
The announcement goes hand in hand with the launch of the PHO’s revamped website which features a monthly Community Notice Board where the public will be kept in touch with the latest news of health services and health related events in the community. It is hoped that the notice board will become a vital news hub informing the public of the broad range of primary health services operating in the community. This aim is in keeping with Well Dunedin’s objective to work towards finding ways to give people direct access to a broad multidisciplinary primary health care team.
The website also features a map locating 29 medical practices that are contracted to Well Dunedin. They cover the Dunedin area extending as far north as Palmerston and as far south as Green Island. For residents new to Dunedin or who have moved to a different area, finding a Well Dunedin medical practice in their neighbourhood is now as fast as the click of a mouse. Each practice has its fees listed and contact details.
Patients who are enrolled with a Well Dunedin practice can access services that are funded by Well Dunedin such as free sexual health services for under 25 yr olds, a free language interpreter service, an emergency prescription subsidy and a transport assistance scheme. Well Dunedin has additional services in the pipeline that it will fund and these will be posted on the website when they are up and running.
Well Dunedin’s logo features an octagon with a white cross in the centre. The white cross denotes health but also doubles as a plus sign to signify that Well Dunedin doesn’t work in isolation but aims to act as a catalyst to facilitate communication and synergy between community health groups and primary health providers to the overall benefit of the health of the community.
The octagon is an obvious Dunedin icon but also represents the 8 major stakeholders that Well Dunedin has a relationship with: Community, Iwi, Health Providers, the Otago District Health Board, Ministry of Health, Government, other PHOs and the Public.
Well Dunedin works to provide a first class health service for its community by supporting its 29 practices and its 73 GPs, 55 Practice Nurses, and other health professionals. Collectively it provides or supports: care and treatment when people are ill, services that help people to stay healthy, working with and understanding those groups in the community who have poor health or who are missing out on primary health care, maintaining links between primary care health providers in the community and managing the new health initiatives and health funding on behalf of the District Health board, Ministry of Health and government. |
